How the calculation works
The calculator uses the simple formulas below. Every input can be changed.
| Result | Formula |
|---|---|
| Salt per month | production volume per month × salt dosage (%) ÷ 100 |
| Salt per year | salt per month × 12 |
| 25 kg / 50 kg sacks | salt per month (kg) ÷ 25 or ÷ 50, rounded up |
| 1,000 kg jumbo bags | salt per month (kg) ÷ 1,000, rounded up |
| 20ft containers | salt per month (t) ÷ assumed payload per container |
Example and assumptions
A plant making 100 tonnes of finished product per month at a 2% salt dosage needs 100 × 2 ÷ 100 = 2 tonnes, or 2,000 kg of salt per month and 24 tonnes per year. That equals 80 sacks of 25 kg, 40 sacks of 50 kg or 2 jumbo bags per month. The 2% figure is only an editable example; use the dosage from your own recipe or formulation.
If you already know your monthly salt requirement, for example from purchase records, choose the direct salt requirement mode and enter it without calculating from production volume.
The container count uses an editable payload assumption per 20ft container. The default is 25 tonnes, an industry estimate for bagged salt. The actual payload depends on packaging type, road weight limits in the origin and destination countries and the shipping line's rules, so confirm the figure with your forwarder.
